Renovating to rent a property in Australia at the moment is a good investment as it seems the rental shortage won’t ease any time soon. By improving their properties, landlords can not only increase the yield from their investment but also get better tenants that would want to stay longer.
SCOPE OF WORK: Painting the entire interior of the unit, including kitchen cabinets and benchtops. Colour choice. New sink taps, shower, kitchen fan. Removal of old carpets. The floor was tiled with the same tiles for cohesiveness. Professional tile and grout cleaning in the bathroom. New benchtop in the kitchen. New light fixtures throughout the unit. Home staging. New curtains in rooms. Electric works. Large bathroom mirror installed above vanity. Removal of old shower screen and replacement with shower curtain. Mulch in the front garden.
Renovating to rent – before and after photos
As a starter, the entire apartment square footage of the flooring was resurfaced by installing tiles. This had two purposes. First, to give unity to the design theme and second, to make the apartment easy to clean and maintain as a rental.

The kitchen is small but functional. To give it a feeling of spaciousness but also a character, the walls were painted in warm but calming terracotta which is reminiscent of the landscape of many desert landscapes. This created a differentiation between the living+dining room and kitchen, but we did marry the two spaces but installing the same light shapes in all.

The Bedrooms – before and after
We’ve decided to take a ‘hint’ from the view to the backyard that this small bedroom did offer and painted the walls in deep soothing green. It is from our favourite mineral paint brand – Porter’s – that gives such a organic feel to the surface.
The light fixtures in natural woven rope give the space additional natural look while not cluttering the hight above. Block-out curtains were added to give privacy but also to help with the temperature and light regulation of the rooms.
